Step 2: Design a study and collect data
Johnson and Goldstein recruited participants for their study through various general interest bulletin boards on the internet. They offered an incentive of $4.00 for completing the online survey. Subjects were randomly assigned to be told one of three default options. Responses were received from 161 individuals (excluding careless responses, identified as taking less than 5 seconds, and multiple responses from the same IP address).
(c) Did the study make use of random sampling, random assignment, both, or neither? Also describe the implications of your answer in terms of scope of conclusions that can potentially be drawn from this study.
(d) Did this study pair subjects in one group with subjects in another group, or are the subjects in the different recruitment groups independent of each other?
